A few weeks ago, my flag football team won another championship.
At 52 years old, I’m honored that I still get to line up at quarterback with two of my sons and a group of teammates I’d go to battle with any day of the week. We won because everyone bought into the same philosophy: train, do your job, and never settle for “good enough.”
As proud as I was to hold that trophy, what meant even more was being voted Offensive MVP by my teammates. When the people in the huddle trust you to lead them, that’s something you never take for granted.
Whether I’m calling plays on a football field or at Vienna of Roslyn, the goal never changes. Build the right team. Prepare relentlessly. Sweat the details. Execute when it matters most because trust is earned.
People ask me all the time how I know what works. The truth is, I’ve been fortunate to spend more than 30 years learning the hospitality business from every angle imaginable. I’ve bartended, deejayed, promoted, opened bars, built event spaces, and produced thousands of celebrations.
My uncle Steven, who owned K-Swiss, gave me a piece of advice a long time ago that has stayed with me throughout my career. He said, “Experience is expensive.”
He wasn’t talking about money.
He believes every lesson comes with a price. Sometimes you earn it through a win. Sometimes you earn it by getting knocked down. Either way, if you’re paying attention, experience becomes the one thing no one can take away from you.
That’s why I decided to write The Prince Playbook.
Every week, families sit across from me asking many of the same questions. Where should we spend our money? How do we make the celebration feel like us? What can we do to ensure every guest has an amazing time?
Those conversations made me realize something.
Families shouldn’t have to learn these lessons the expensive way.
If I write what decades of experience have taught me before someone signs a contract or makes a decision they’ll only get one chance to make, I can help them avoid a few mistakes—and create a celebration they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
This blog isn’t about promoting Vienna. It’s about sharing what I’ve learned after thousands of events, countless late nights, a lot of victories, and plenty of lessons along the way.
If you’ve found your way here, I hope you’ll find something useful—whether you’re planning your first milestone celebration or your fifth.
Welcome to The Prince Playbook.
Let’s get to work.
